Pool filter cleaning in San Angelo: identify the system first
Cloudy water or weak return flow can have several causes. A dirty filter is one possibility, but water chemistry, pump operation, blockages, or damaged components may also need attention. Cleaning should match the equipment that is actually installed.
Concho Valley Pool is family-owned and has served the Concho Valley for 13+ years. We help San Angelo owners assess filter condition and discuss cleaning or repair needs, including pools in Southland, Bentwood, College Hills, and near Lake Nasworthy.
Cartridge, sand, and D.E. filters need different care
- Cartridge: Identify the exact model before removing its elements for cleaning. Pentair’s Clean & Clear Plus CCP420 uses cartridges and does not require backwashing.
- Sand: Backwashing may be part of the model’s procedure. Valve operation and the waste route must match the installed system.
- D.E.: Cleaning can include backwashing or internal element care. For example, Pentair’s FNS Plus procedure requires the specified D.E. recharge afterward; do not copy its quantities or valve steps to a different filter.
Quick checklist: information to collect before calling
- Photograph the filter label, gauge, full equipment pad, and any control or backwash valve from a safe position.
- Record the current pressure, your known clean-filter baseline, and the pump speed or operating mode for both readings.
- Note when the filter was last cleaned and whether pressure rose gradually or changed suddenly.
- Describe weak flow, air bubbles, unusual sounds, leaks, cloudiness, or material returning to the pool.
- List recent treatments, equipment work, or changes in valve positions without moving valves just to experiment.
There is no single “8–10 psi above normal” rule for every filter. Pentair specifies approximately 10 psi above the original starting pressure for Clean & Clear Plus, with pump RPM relevant to the comparison. Use your own model’s threshold and a working gauge. A number recorded at a different pump speed is not a like-for-like comparison.
What to discuss for a cleaning visit
An assessment should establish the filter type, visible condition, symptom history, and appropriate maintenance scope. Depending on the equipment, that may involve cartridge cleaning, D.E. maintenance, sand-filter backwashing, or further investigation of circulation and leaks.
We offer on-site digital water testing to provide current readings alongside the equipment assessment. Water results and equipment observations answer different questions; neither should be used alone to promise that one cleaning will resolve every cloudy-water problem.
What is reasonable to check yourself?
Reading accessible labels, gathering maintenance records, and noting visible symptoms are useful first steps. Cleaning a skimmer basket or performing other routine tasks still requires the applicable equipment instructions. Removing a pressurized tank lid is a different level of work.
Pentair recommends professional filter maintenance. Opening a filter requires the manufacturer’s complete power-isolation and pressure-release procedure, safe reassembly, and controlled restart. Do not loosen or tighten a clamp while the pump is powered or pressure remains. A gauge reading alone does not make a damaged or unfamiliar filter safe to open.
Disassembly, reassembly, and startup all matter. Even within one filter family, clamp versions differ. An article or short video cannot replace the instructions for the actual tank, clamp, and valve. Avoid improvised tools, chemical mixtures, or compressed-air cleaning.
When professional assessment is the better next step
Arrange service for a leaking tank or clamp, damaged or unreadable gauge, persistent high pressure after correct maintenance, D.E. returning to the pool, or an unexplained loss of circulation. Stop operating affected equipment if a pressure or electrical fault is suspected. For shared or commercial facilities, use the responsible operator’s maintenance process rather than a homeowner checklist.
Cleaning, replacement, and cost
Before approving work, ask what the visit includes, whether replacement parts are proposed, and what findings support that recommendation. Parts availability, compatibility, and any warranty conditions need confirmation. Keep the model number and previous service records with the estimate.
Our service area includes San Angelo and nearby communities such as Christoval and Grape Creek. Include recent pool chemical additions in the history so water treatment and equipment maintenance can be considered together.
Request a filter assessment
Text 469-585-4093 with the filter model, current and clean-baseline pressure if known, any error or symptom, and photos of the label, gauge, and equipment pad. Include your location. Those details help us discuss the next step and confirm availability without diagnosing from a pool photo alone.
