Hayward TigerShark: check the robot, not the pool pump
The Hayward TigerShark is a corded robotic cleaner with its own pump and filter. It does not get suction from the pool’s circulation pump, and it does not use a suction-cleaner hose. If yours stops moving or leaves debris behind, begin with the robot’s model number, removable filter and power setup.
TigerShark, TigerShark QC, Plus and TigerShark2 versions differ. Match the label and controls to the correct manual rather than assuming every version shares the same cleaning cycle or features.

Safe owner checks
- Power: Use the specified Hayward supply and a GFCI-protected outlet, without an extension cord. Keep the supply at the distance from the pool required by your manual. Stop using equipment with a damaged cable or a GFCI that trips unexpectedly.
- Filter: Switch off and unplug before maintenance. Clean the robot’s cartridge and refit the bottom lid securely.
- Movement: Inspect accessible tracks and rollers for trapped debris. Do not run the cleaner out of water to test it.
- Cable: Follow the handle-position and cable-care instructions for your model. Lift the cleaner out by its handle.
Hayward’s TigerShark Series owner’s manual explains these checks. The sealed motor unit and power supply have no owner-serviceable internal parts.
Separate a cleaning problem from a repair question
Note which symptom remains after routine care. “Moves normally but leaves sand,” “stops shortly after starting” and “no response at startup” describe different problems. Record whether it reaches the walls, where it stops, and whether the issue happens every cycle. A short video from the pool deck can be more useful than a guess about a failed motor.
If the pool is heavily soiled, decide what needs manual attention before another cycle. A robot is one part of pool care; it does not replace water testing, balancing or attention to the circulation equipment.
Before paying for service
Have the model and serial number, purchase record and symptom notes ready. Ask whether the proposed provider services that exact TigerShark version, which parts are available, and what the diagnostic charge covers. For a possible warranty claim, confirm the appropriate service route with Hayward or the seller first.
